The old B&M win rate standard was 1 big bet an hour. I do not know where it came from, how it was dervied, or what the online equivalent is. It's just something that I've read about repeatedly in a number of different places.

trout if your a newbie to poker like you say be careful... you will probably lose 2bb/hr or more in a 10/20 game. Start off at low limits and work your way up to the 5/10 and 10/20.

trout-

frankly, based on your last post, i expect that you may not be experienced enough to even breakeven.

1 big bet = $6 in 3/6, $10 in 5/10 and $20 in 10/20

2bb/hr = you guessed it...2 big bets per hour so in 3/6...

2bb/hr = 1 big bet x 2 = 6 x 2 = $12 per hour

be careful, sometimes in poker terms "bb" is also equal to big blind. i suggest you pick up a book (there are a few threads on that topic) to improve your game and become more knowledgable about the hobby. with regard to limits, i say play any limit that you can afford.

One big bet per hour was common in the "old days" (brick and mortar game) but over the internet that is on the low side now. I'd say 1 1/2 BB's an hour is about right for a pro, maybe more. If you play 10/20 and can sustain that ($30 an hour) you are legit in my book.

When I say sustain it I don't mean over the week-end or for a couple of weeks, I mean on an annual basis. Most records are kept for tax purposes on a yearly basis when it comes to reporting and claiming your winnings anyway. I would recommend keeping a journal even as you learn the game, get home and fill it out each time. Track wins, losses, how long you played, stakes, etc.... and also add your own comments along the way about anything you feel should be tracked. The more info you have the better it is.

about 4-5BB/HR at anything under 4/8. I make about 3-4 at 5/10 and about 1 at 15/30 (as you can see my game at 15/30 needs improvement).

But the peter principle could also be a factor.

No offense but to say you average $30-40 /hr at a 5-10 game is just ludacris. From a statistical standpoint it's practically impossible to maintain over a long period of time. Infact, it is impossible.

How long of a period have you had this win streak of 3-4 bb/hr?

I got to highly doubt this story too. Even says $32-40 an hour in $4-8? No chance man. If you log a years worth of hours you aren't winning $40 an hour in $4-8. Not possible.

Funny...I read this post the day it was made and decided that it was soooooo asinine that I wouldn't respond. Anyone listening to this guy should have their head examined.

Now if I can just take my current win rate in Party's new 30/60 game and play 40 hours a week over 50 weeks in the next year...I would be a millionaire, no sweat!!

swami,

have you been trying the new 30-60? I have not tried it cause I don't think I have mentally prepared myself for the swings but I have been regularly playing 15-30 recently being very game selective.
